Abstract

Mobile Cloud Computing (MCC), which merges mobile computing and cloud computing, has become a significant topic in the IT industry since 2009. As MCC is still in its early stages of development, it is crucial to gain a comprehensive understanding of the technology to guide future research directions. This paper reviews the background and principles of MCC, its characteristics, recent research efforts, and anticipated future trends. It begins with an overview of the evolution from mobile computing to cloud computing, followed by a discussion of MCC's defining features and recent research initiatives. The paper further analyses the infrastructure and functionalities of mobile cloud computing. Additionally, it addresses the challenges associated with MCC, summarizes relevant research projects, and highlights promising avenues for future research.
